It was a sad weekend for South Africa’s Top Billing and entertainment lovers. The beloved Simbarashe Mhere, fondly known as Simba, and a friend were killed in a horrific crash on William Nichol Road near the N1 offramp. Mhere and Kady-Shay O’Bryan died on the scene while Mhere’s father was taken to a nearby hospital.
Mhere and his passengers were traveling in the direction of the O.R Tambo International Airport when the accident occurred. They were en route to Cape Town to attend the J&B Met, when a car crossed the centre island and ramped into Simba’s side. It has been confirmed that the driver of the VW Polo will be charged with culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
The vivacious presenter touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. Tributes and messages of condolence have been flooding in ever since the news broke on Saturday morning. His colleagues and fellow presenters are said to be heart-broken by the death of the man that had “so many big dreams and plans”. His passing has been described as “a devastating loss”, by close friend and colleague of many years, Janez Vermeiren. Jonathan Bronton-Lee cannot believe the news – Simba was going to met him at his house as he still had his Met ticket. He posted a heart-felt message on Twitter.
A memorial page has been set up for the late star, where visitors can pay tribute and light a candle in his memory. Visit remembered.co.za.
